Belarus' Ihar Boki wins fourth Paralympic gold in Tokyo

Belarusian swimmer Ihar Boki won the fourth gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian clocked 23.21 seconds to finish first in the Men's 50m Freestyle S13. Ukraine's Illia Yaremenko touched in second in 23.70 seconds. Bronze went to Maksym Veraksa of Ukraine (23.83 seconds).

Earlier, Ihar Boki set new records in the Men's 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke and 400m Freestyle.

In the previous years Ihar Boki won 11 gold medals at the Paralympics in London in 2012 (5) and in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 (6).

In the ongoing Games in Tokyo Belarusian athletes are competing in five sports.

At the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro Belarusian athletes won 10 (8 gold, 2 bronze) medals, placing 19th in the medal table. Since the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics Belarus has won a total of 98 (36, 32, 30) medals.

Some 4,000 athletes from 160 countries will compete at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. The Games will feature 539 medal events in 22 sports. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 5 September.
